It could have been worse . . .

I thought that she had outgrown it. I thought that somehow miraculously despite her overly inquisitive nature and he knack for trouble that we had dodged a bullet. Unlike so many other little girls I know, Ivy never cut her own hair. I was very anal about letting her use scissors. I always had to be present. She could never use "grown up" scissors.
The other day I set out a little nail kit Teri had loaned me for the trip. I was heading her way and thought I would return it. Unfortunately I walked out the door without it. Ivy found it, extracted the itty bitty scissors and proceeded to cut her hair.

I wish I had taken pictures of the beautiful golden strawberry locks strewn across the living room. It was much more dramatic. Thank heavens she only cut long bangs. I know it could have been much worse. (They don't always look this good)

Pisa

While in Cinque Terre, we took a day trip to Pisa.

Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre is this collection of five little villages on the Riviera. It was beautiful. You can hike from town to town. Unfortunately because of the incessant rain the only trail that was open was the trail between the fourth and fifth towns. In my personal opinion it was more like a sidewalk than a trail, and more of a leisurely stroll than a hike.

We missed our train stop and had to travel to the next town and wait for a train going back. It's not quite as reliable as missing your stop on the metro. Plus it was pouring rain. Luckily it stopped and the sun came out at during the late morning.

Milan

Did I mention that it rained the whole time we were in Italy? Well in Milan, it poured.

We came up out of the metro in Milan and this was the first thing we saw. It was truly breathtaking. We went up to the top and we were there early enough that there were hardly any other tourists.

After the Duomo we went and saw this cool castle. Sforza Castle. Housed the ruling family of Milan (1400-1500's). Was rebuilt in the 1800's. Bombed in WW2 and then rebuilt...again.

All through the trip we road on modern high speed trains. But in order to get to Cinque Terre, we had to take a local train - not quite as fancy.
